Heraldry - Balgonie
The arms of Lundy, Lundie, Lundin of Balgonie are those of the ancient arms of Lundy of that Ilk, quartered with those of Sibbald of Balgonie. They date from the marriage of Robert Lundy, son of Andrew Lundy of Pitlochie (brother to the Laird of Lundy); to Elizabeth Sibbald, the heiress of Balgonie.
These arms have again been recorded in a number of 16th century manuscripts with slight variations, but are most commonly perceived as:
Quarterly first and fourth paly of six Gules and Argent, on a bend Azure three cushions Argent; second and third, Argent, a cross moline Gules.
These arms were later bourne by the family of Lundin of Drums, as heirs of the Balgonie family.
The arms of Lundie of Balgonie can be seen quartered with those of Ayton of Inchdairnie, carved to commemorate the wedding of Alison Lundie of Balgonie and Robert Ayton of Inchdairnie in 1521. Alison was the daughter of James Lundie, 3rd of Balgonie.
